| Students are required to complete a formal research paper to demonstrate that they have learned the steps involved in writing a formal report.
|
| Deliverables:

A complete submission includes:
1. Cover Letter (Note the journal or conference to which the work is being submitted (if applicable). This is the body of the Email.)
2. Cluster Diagram (single page)
3. Complete Linear Outline
4. Formal Written Report

| Submission Guidelines:
|

| Students are required to submit their report in both hard and soft (electronic) copy formats.
|

| The Subject of the Email should include the university acronym, department acronym, your student ID, your name,report option. For example,

| 2. hardcopy should be given to the teacher during class or submitted during office hours.

| Report Options:

| Choose one (1) and only one (1) of the following options:
|
| 1. Letter-Style Paper The Story of my Life
|
|---|
| Length: 500 to 1000 words. Maximum of 3 figures, Minimum of 1 Figure.
|
Evaluation: Either ACCEPT (17.5/25), REVISE(0/25) or REJECT (0/25)
- Linear Outline: sufficient depth, good organization, formatted as discussed in class (10 pnts)
- Macro-level (10 pnts)
    - Introduction (2)
    - Body(2)
    - Conclusion (2)
- Micro-level (5 pnts)

| Due Date: Week 5 (class time) for initial submission. Week 8 for final revised submission

| 2. Full Research Paper
|

| 2a. Based on your own research, or,

| 2b. Based on your class project (i.e. Internet Survey, Cup Design, etc.)

| Length: more than 1000 words

Evaluation:
- Linear Outline: sufficient depth, good organization, formatted as discussed in class (5 pnts)
- Title: Good English, accurate, interesting (2.5 pnts)
- Abstract: 50-100 words, purpose, method, results, conclusion (2.5 pnts)
- Macro-level: (10 pnts total, divided equally among following items)
    - Introduction (general problem stated, literature review, hypothesis stated, plan of attack summarized, interesting, appropriate length)
    - Experimental (clear explanation, correct verb tense, sufficient depth)
    - Results (Figure quality, format correct, understandable)
    - Discussion (style, logic, paragraph order smooth, understandable)
    - Conclusion(Summarizes key points, restates hypothesis, author opinions, appropriate length)
- Micro-level: Grammatically correct, good sentence structure, spelling correct, English not Chinglish (5 pnts)

| Due Date: Week 8 (3 days after last class)
|
| If your research is not yet completed, you may project the results that you expect and write accordingly. If you have a figure using projected results, you need to make this clear in the Figure caption.
|
| Note: Your supervisor must sign the hardcopy of the paper to certify that the English writing is primarily your work and not your supervisor's work, and the research results are original (i.e. not a summary of a published paper). Write " I (supervisor's name) certify that the English writing of this report is the work of (your name). This paper represents original research conducted by (your name) and other of my students. "

| 3. Poster Style Research Paper Prepare and Submit a poster (in English) to a conference

| Note: Do not choose this option if you are not planning to submit to a conference. Your cover letter must include detailed information about the conference to which you have submitted the poster.

| Multimedia Create a multimedia teaching aid for use in this course.
